When it comes to #GIRLBOSS-ing it, Personal Trainer and blogger Carly Rowena knows where it’s at. With hundreds and thousands of Instagram followers and a loyal collective of fitness clients across the globe, Carly inspires us to live our best kinda life.

As women increasingly looking to take charge of their working life and build their own brand like Carly, finding your own success is not as complicated as you might think. We caught up with Carly to talk about her newly launched “Get Gorgeous Guide” and to discover her golden tips for becoming the ultimate girl boss.

You recently launched your Get Gorgeous E-Book, what made you decide to do this?

I created the GetGorgeous guide as a way to help 60% of the people who contact me daily. I train clients online and in person but realised I had a much bigger worldwide audience that I couldn’t reach, that was when my Guide was born. A twelve week transformation guide designed to give people the tools they need to go from beginner to hardcore, and finally understand how to move their bodies with the option of being at home or in the gym, and with the support of a private Facebook community of people doing exactly the same.

What do you love about what you do?

I literally have to pinch myself that this is what I do, I honestly feel like the luckiest girl in the world! I get to help people fall in love with themselves, work with brands I’ve loved since I was young and structure my own day around the things I love the most!

What influenced you to become a personal trainer and fitness blogger?

My story is slightly backwards. I never knew what I wanted to be when growing up and really struggled to find the right path. I spent 7 years working in marketing and although it was an incredible career my heart just wasn’t in it. I turned to YouTube as a sort of talent finder, a way to figure out my passions. Three months in and with my following growing it was actually my audience who made me realise that fitness was my talent, so I decided to do an online personal training course while working full time and then set myself the goal of quitting my job and becoming fully booked as Personal Trainer in the same month, it worked and i’ve never looked back!

When planning a new retreat, what do you get most excited about? how do you go about planning the itineraries to ensure that perfect balance of fun and relaxation?

I love planning retreats! First it starts with me asking my audience where they want to go, then I check my analytics to make sure I choose a place accessible for my key demographics and then the fun begins! I always look out for somewhere rustic but beautiful, somewhere we we can take over the whole venue and make it feel like our own home. Then I think about what would make it fun, learning to surf, sup, trying a class, hiking to a waterfall and from there the possibilities are endless!

What are your tips for keeping your health and fitness together with such a busy schedule?

Every Sunday I sit down with a cup of tea and plan my diary for the week ahead, I block out time to workout, time to walk the dog and time to meditate. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t always run smoothly and some weeks I am able to do it 5 times a week, sometimes it’s two but I take the time to try and create a plan which will prevent me from failing.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned starting your own business and being your own boss?

My biggest lesson is that you shouldn’t wait, if you have a dream just go for it and make it work. I had so many plans in my head but the issue was I let them stay there and then the moment passed me by. Now if I have an idea I write it down, think about what I need to make it a reality and go for it!

What can we look to see from Carly Rowena in the future?

The future feels incredible, I honestly couldn’t predict where I am tomorrow let alone the future however expect more retreats, from UK, to Europe and worldwide as well as challenges such as Machu Picchu and Everest Base Camp. I am also bringing out a new guide and writing a non-fitness based book as well as releasing my own merchandise, so watch this space!

What advice do you have for inspiring women who are looking to kickstart a career in wellness?

The wellness industry grows day by day and I love how busy it has become, do your research, educate yourself daily and be proud of the information you want to share!
